One Room Challenge: Studio Apartment

We set our to renovate one of our basement apartments to a studio apartment this fall for the One Room Challenge. This space started as cinderblock walls and we drywalled the ceilings and walls.

This was the general idea I had for the space. I wanted it to feel collegiate…is that a thing? I’m still not 100% sure. I like the Graduate Hotel feel or Lark Hotels. I wanted a little eclectic, but mature.

The first project was a board and batten accent wall. Read how we did that here. We painted it Caldwell Green by Benjamin Moore.

Accent Wall #2: This accent wall was not planned. It kind of came about as the project moved forward. We were going to put a kitchenette in here, but its not legal in our town to have an additional kitchen. We thought it would still be nice to have a space to eat and do some work.

Philip used shiplap that he glued on first and then finished off with nails. Then we matched the paint the wall color (Behr - Simply White). The desk is made from old hardwood flooring we weren’t using and we used Danish oil to finish that and the shelf.

Accent Wall #3…I was a little nervous to go overboard with accent walls, but this one was an easy yes. I wallpapered this entryway space. Livette’s Wallpaper kindly gifted me with this grid paper that was perfect for the collegiate feel I wanted. I love the way the Loloi Rug added to the space as well.

This is if you were sitting on the bed. The TCL tv pulls off of the wall to turn toward the bed or toward the couch. Blinds are still in transit, but I’m sure will finish off the space.
