living room update and the haven sectional

Another room bites the dust! Yes - there are a few things unfinished in here. We still don’t have blinds. It could use a sitting chair and then at some point we will open up the walls from this room into the kitchen, but wow it feels good to get to this point.

For wood paneling, we clean the walls and then prime them once (maybe even twice) and then paint.

And more on the Haven Sectional & West Elm Couches

If you follow me on stories on instagram, you’ll know I debated over what sectional to get for a very very long time. We wanted something big and comfy enough for our family of five to sit on, durable enough to be right off the kitchen and handle a few spills…

I thought we would get the Andes sectional by West Elm, but a couple people mentioned concerns over the thin legs getting wobbly with kids jumping. After a month or so of having the Haven and seeing my 9 year old dive on the couch - I think we made the right choice.

We looked at a few other brands and ultimately we went with West Elm because we have a couple of their couches and have appreciated the quality. We also had credit card reward points that we could redeem at West Elm and the price point was a little less expensive than Pottery Barn (which I also love, but have you met my husband? He is so thrifty…)

So we had settled on the Haven and went to pick one up from the West Elm Outlet a couple hours away. When we got there we realized they had half of the leather version. Leather couches are one of my favorite things because we really try our best to take care of things, but spills happen and leather couches are so forgiving.

Even though we could have left with a couch that day, we felt like it was better to get our dream couch if possible. So we bought half of a sectional because they greatly discount half of sectionals because only a few crazy people will actually buy them and order the rest online.

Here is our family on HALF of the Haven sectional and we actually all fit.

The interesting thing about the outlet for furniture is it was helpful to see how some pieces aged. We knew from having the Paidge sofa which we like, but the cushions do lose their shape over time. We could tell that this might be a problem with the Harris sofa too.

Its hard to tell in this photo, but the Paidge cushions have gotten a little saggy over the years.

And here is our first West Elm couch - its the Henry that they no longer make in leather, but we like it. As you can tell, the leather has warn, but it still looks fine after 5 years. The back cushions on these are attached.

The Henry is definitely more upright - less of a lounging kind of couch. We really like, but its not as comfy as the Haven.

In short, so far so good. I did not really get into all the other couches we considered. If you are looking for an oversized, comfortable, but stylish couch - I would recommend the Haven.
