I have been sharing about our home online for the last seven years and it’s mostly a hobby that I enjoy doing, but one perk to this job is somewhat passive income you can make through affiliate marketing.
Here are a few basics about affiliate marketing and specifically ShopMy, an affiliate marketing platform that I find pretty easy to navigate!
How does ShopMy work?
I share links to thinks I genuinely love online and when someone uses my link I make a small commission at no extra cost to the buyer.
What is so great about affiliate marketing? Is it passive?
I like it because it allows me to share about things I really like that I would be sharing about any way and helps generate some income for our family. I also think it can be fun creative outlet. Sometimes I make very little from it and then occasionally someone buys our couch that I reviewed years ago on my blog and I get a $200 commission basically out of the blue.
It is somewhat passive because it does take work on the front end, but some pieces of content can generate money over the yearas.
How do you create a link once I have an account?
Download the snapshot link from your shop my account.
When you are on a on a product page you want to link, you click the snapshot button. This screen will pop-up.
You can add the product to your link list or to a specific category you have created.
When you link a product, you’ll see different commission rates depending on the brand and product category. See how above this particular site is 6% commission. Some brand offer a much more generous rate as well.
How else can you make money with affiliate marketing?
Within ShopMy, another way I am able to generate income is “opportunities.” Brands are able to reach out to you within the ShopMy system and might offer product or payment in exchange for sharing about their brand.
