Ipswich Inn Renovations

Have you ever felt unqualified for something, but it sounds fun so you say yes?!

This fall my friends decided to buy an Inn in Ipswich, MA and they asked if I would help decorate it. I have shared some of the process, but some of the before and afters are so good I thought I would share! We used to live in the area so I feel like I had a good sense of the area.

When I flew up in December to see it - it looked like this (below), but mostly because the previous owner had started to take down things she wanted to keep. After that one trip - I worked remotely. I wish I lived up there to treasure hunt for it, but maybe will get to do that in the future.

We thought something dramatic would be fun in the living room. I did ruffle a few feathers, but I mostly have stuck to Williamsburg or Historical colors with Benjamin Moore which feels appropriate to this 1800s home.

The town allowed them to reprint some historical photos and I love the way this turned out. Ipswich supposedly has the most historical homes in the country - it is incredibly rich with history & it was fun to put some of it on the walls.

The Inn has an active restaurant (and delicious restaurant!) and they use the dining room. We gave it a little update with some plates found locally and around in the Inn and the color….

The floors were just incredible. Upstairs hallway…

The second floor bedrooms are all Boothbay Gray (BM) and have a similar look. In theory, I thought I would batch a lot of rooms, but each room was also pretty unique so need to individual selections as well.

Most of the bathroom were painted BM Wrought Iron (also in the lobby & on the bannister) trying to create a connected feel. We used these William Morris prints that felt appropriate, but were an affordable art piece we could print.

I still have a lot of questions about this bathroom and why there was a platform, but I’m glad we could save the cast iron tub and create a bigger shower with some fun flooring!

This suite had a little wet bar that we made really cute…

I’m not a huge accent wall fan, but this kind of served as a backsplash and add a pop of pattern! This is Market Floral by Chasing Paper and we repeated it a couple times because its so good!

On the third floor, we did a seafoam green. We really loved the windows here and wanted to keep them exposed. The walls are HC-141 Hollingsworth Green & the trim is Salisbury Green (HC-139) - semi gloss (BM).

We repeated the green color scheme with more wallpaper on another wet bar on the third floor.

I don’t have a good picture - but I thought Tree Toile was perfect - historical feeling, but a little fun. The trim is HC-141 Hollingsworth Green again.

We got to have some fun with wallpaper. I have always loved Chasing Paper’s options and I’m glad Rachel & Alex did too!

The little sofa here is a pullout sleeper from Crate & Barrel so perfect for families.

This suite had a wet bar closet - so we color drenched it Boothbay Gray again. The cabinet is
