Boy Bedroom Refresh: Beddy's Bedding + An IKEA Kura Update

Jude’s room was in need of a little refresh. We have been in our house for a year and his room felt a little tired. We hadn’t really finished hanging pictures and honestly - I don’t love love this IKEA bed for him anymore. He is eight and we had considered a full size bed or bunk beds, but really it is a busy season for us and the bed still works.

I knew we needed to hang some pictures. The flag was looking lonely. I might frame the flag eventually, but not right now. We did a magic light trick - the light uses no electricity! More details on that in this post here.

My solution for under the bed was a long shelf. We used plywood, waxed and used shelf brackets from home depot.

I had my eye on Beddy’s bedding for this room because the bunk bed is such a pain to make. It’s frustrating to make the bed as an adult so realistically - the bed was never going to get made by my son. Literally - I don’t think he ever made his bed, but I kind of don’t know how he would have.

Beddy’s makes one piece, zip-up bedding - perfect for a hard to make bed like this. The bedding zips up on the side like a sleeping bag. We went with the minky option because Jude has used a similar blanket for a long time. No sheets needed.

So far, we LOVE it! The minky has not been too hot - even though its summer. The bed is easy to zip up to make in the morning.

KURA BED UPDATE. And as far as removing the panels, I asked my husband to do this. I thought he was going to take apart the bed, but he literally knocked them out. They are not weight-bearing from what we could tell.

If you are building this bed new, I would just select the panels you would like to keep in and not attach them if you would prefer not to.
