We finished + sold the Airstream

I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to announce we sold our camper. During 2020 we decided for the second time to renovate an Airstream. We thought we might be camping people, but long story short…we aren’t.

First a short tour of the Airstream…

Once we finished renovating…

Philip built bunk beds from lumber we already had on hand. I’m sorry we don’t have more specifics, but this is what we did.

Of course, we used Beddy’s for the kids’ bunks. These are Naturally BOHO. Linked them here & you can use code KATIEB for an additional discount.

On the other side of the bunks we decided to create a bench seat with a cushion from Urban Outfitters.

So why did we sell?

Ultimately, we didn’t know if we were camping people.

  • We did like it fine, but the work it takes to get an Airstream hooked up and set up at a camp site is a lot. We camped with friends in Acadia and they stayed in a cute little cabin that felt like camping (no kitchen, only a fire pit) and ultimately we felt like we would have had as much fun just staying in a cabin.

  • Towing a camper is also full of challenges when traveling long distances. We had to map out where we would stop for gas because you needed a truck stop to pump gas.

  • Lastly, our plan when we bought this was to possibly put the Airstream on land and rent it. Then we realized - it would make more sense to have got a different layout (not a bunk bed model, but one with a double or queen in the back of the camper for Airbnb. We also did not come across the right property in a couple years of looking.

We did enjoy learning to fix it up. We did mostly cosmetic work and hired out a professional RV repair man to do more of the technical work.

Let me know if I missed any questions.

and Yes, this is our second and likely last Airstream. :)
