One Room Challenge: Fall 2020

Hi friends!

I’m trying something new here. If you have been around for awhile - you know we have a lot of space in our basement. We have around 2,000 square feet that formerly was used as apartments for college boys since the 1960s.

We finished one side of the basement for an apartment/extension for family in our home. Details here.

Now we are going to finish the other space as a guest bedroom for family as well!

Jude’s room was in need of a little refresh. We have been in our house for a year and his room felt a little tired. We hadn’t really finished hanging pictures and honestly - I don’t love love this IKEA bed for him anymore. He is eight and we had considered a full size bed or bunk beds, but really it is a busy season for us and the bed still works.

Last spring, I thought I’ll do a weekly round up post on my blog. Then a few weeks later our state shut down due to the virus, the kids came home to homeschool….and here we are months later.

We are grateful to be starting school in a hybrid model and praying that we will be able to continue and for safety and health.

The summer was a lot of time at home and at the pool (also grateful for that).

An Alternative to a Drop Ceiling

In our basement Airbnb, our electrician recommended we do a drop ceiling. One reason for us to do a drop ceiling was because we have not renovated our kitchen the floor above yet and may need to run plumbing and wiring.

But I really dislike typical drop ceilings and was not thrilled with this idea. I found an alternative option on pinterest and we created beautiful tray ceiling instead of the typical drop ceiling. This is work my husband would typically do, but since we were about to have a baby, we hired this out locally.

Family Room

Family Room

I am really grateful for our house and also a little overwhelmed by its size. Mind you, we have lived most recently in a 1,200 square ft house and then a 1,500 square foot house. This 3,000 square foot house feels like a palace…and sometimes too much space.

BUT did I mention, I am still grateful to be working on a family room space and have multiple rooms that we can purpose different ways?
